Romans 1:21-22, 24 NLT “Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools.
24 So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies.”
In verse 24, many presume this to be an immoral sexual sin. But it can be many things. For example, a person who is infatuated or obsessed with being financially successful. God can allow us to become very successful. We may think of it as a blessing or prayer answered. But in reality, God handed us over to our own obsessed desires. What would great wealth then do to some of us? Would we end up abandoning God, and would wealth make our minds dark? This is why some are still bottom feeders, as God may be showing the ugly in our hearts when we are poor. How much more ugly would come out of our hearts when we become wealthy?
Maybe this is why we are stuck financially. Because ugly is being exposed both ways, some are left in the “middle class,” or else they may abandon God.
