Quote
“Neophobia: Neophobia is the fear of anything new or unfamiliar. It most commonly refers to a reluctance to try new foods, especially in children, but can also apply to other situations like new jobs, places, or social activities. While mild neophobia is a natural and sometimes protective evolutionary response, in its more intense forms, it is a type of anxiety that can cause significant distress and affect one’s quality of life.
Neophobia can present with a range of symptoms, from a simple unwillingness to try new things to more severe physical and psychological reactions.
Physical symptoms: Breathlessness, increased heart rate, dizziness, nausea, or trembling.
Psychological symptoms: Intense anxiety, catastrophic thoughts, and an overwhelming sense of dread when faced with a new situation.”
End quote
People with neophobia would rather give up instead of trying. It is easier to stay stuck rather than go outside your comfort zone. It is safer to stay with a dead-end job. Or maybe stay unemployed because you are afraid of failing. It is better to stay single and unmarried rather than feel rejected during dates. It is easier to drink or smoke crack than be responsible.
It is an enemy of faith.
