‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT “‬‬Meanwhile, the boy Samuel served the Lord by assisting Eli. Now in those days messages from the Lord were very rare, and visions were quite uncommon.”

Let us look at the life of Samuel. He was born to Hannah, and his parents gave him to the Lord. This was a literal act. It was not a promise like many parents may make today. When Samuel was old enough to eat solid food as a toddler, he was given to the Temple of God. Who was he given to?

Samuel was given to the high priest Eli. Who is this high priest, Eli? He is a father of two boys who are greatly spoiled and not properly disciplined. These two boys or men came and took the best portions of the people’s offering, which belonged to God, and consumed it themselves. They were also sleeping with the church women. Moreover, Priest Eli was fat, which means he was also consuming the best portion of the people’s offering, which belonged to God. Warnings were sent to the House of Aaron, but Priest Eli passively did nothing.

High Priest Eli is a direct descendant of Aaron, and a promise was made that Aaron’s descendants would continue in this line of Levite priests forever. But with these heinous acts from the family of Eli, God declared HE was going to cut his line and start with someone else, and the line of Eli from there forth will become the bottom of bottom feeders. God said since Eli honored his children more than God, Eli’s boys would be destroyed.

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭2‬:‭25‬ ‭NLT‬‬ “If someone sins against another person, God can mediate for the guilty party. But if someone sins against the Lord, who can intercede?” But Eli’s sons wouldn’t listen to their father, for the Lord was already planning to put them to death.
