Continuing on Sunday preaching
Luke 19:2, 8-10 NLT “There was a man there named Zacchaeus. He was the chief tax collector in the region, and he had become very rich.
8 Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, “I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!”
9 Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”
When John the Baptist called for repentance, he spoke to the three groups. The message was addressed and centered around their greed because the love of money is the root of all evil, and God required them to take action to show that money did not control them.
In Zacchaeus’ case, who becomes Matthew, he was a tax collector who scammed and stole money. He was a wealthy man through his position. His true, sincere repentance was shown through the action of giving. When he gave half his wealth to God and made reparations to those he stole, Jesus said, “Salvation has come to him and also his whole household!”
When our repentance is genuine, then our whole household will be saved, not just us.
Acts 16:31 NLT “They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with everyone in your household.”
