Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭TPT‬‬To truly know HIM meant letting go of everything from my past and throwing all my boasting on the garbage heap. It’s all like a pile of manure to me now, so that I may be enriched in the reality of knowing Jesus Christ and embrace him as Lord in all of his greatness.

9 My passion is to be consumed with him and not cling to my own “righteousness” based in keeping the written Law. My only “righteousness” will be his, based on the faithfulness of Jesus Christ—the very righteousness that comes from God.“

If you are trying to be a new person without letting go of your old baggage, what will happen? You will constantly be frustrated due to a lack of surrender. Refusing to let go is still about you. You will never come to know Him if you refuse to let go.

Then what did Jesus say in Matthew 7? “I never knew you!”

Unless you let go, intimacy cannot be established. You will be having a relationship with yourself and the demons. Read the whole chapter for context.
