Nominal – what does this word mean?

1. Existing by name only, not in fact or truth

Example: Nominal Christian

People label or brand themselves to give themselves identity.

“I am Korean.”
“I am Mexican.”
“I am Black.”
“I am a Christian”

I can look Korean, but I am living a life as an American. Therefore, by saying “I am Korean,” I am claiming my identity as a race, but I may not be acting like those in Korea. Then where is my allegiance? Is my allegiance based on which people I look like or lifestyle?

If we say we are Christians, are we living the life described in the Bible and as Jesus did? If not, we are nominal Christians. We are then Christians by name only but acting and living as some other identity. Then, we are counterfeits. There are so many people like that in the world. Perhaps deception is more pervasive than we are led to think within the ranks of Christianity.

Therefore, you should question yourself.
