Psalms 37:8-9 AMP “Cease from anger and abandon wrath; Do not fret; it leads only to evil.
9 For those who do evil will be cut off, But those who wait for the Lord, they will inherit the land.”
Definition of Fret:
1. be constantly or visibly worried or anxious.
2. gradually wear away (something) by rubbing or gnawing.
A. a state of anxiety or worry.
The Amplified Bible uses the word “fret,” which describes a person who worries or is anxious, leading them to evil. The Passion version uses “envy” instead of “fret.” In verse 7, the scripture instructs us to “Be still before the Lord.”
Verse 8 warns against becoming angry and wrathful. As God’s people, you must first learn to be patient and still. God uses unbelievers, wicked believers, or anyone who has more than you as a comparison, and if you become envious or jealous of them, your test is whether you will become angry and frustrated, lashing out at God and complaining that life is unfair.
Verse 9 states, “But those who wait for the Lord will inherit the land.” Similarly, a verse in Matthew says, “The meek shall inherit the earth.” Without patience and gentleness (humility), you cannot prosper, whether physically or spiritually. If you constantly worry and overthink, you may eventually become very angry and, like Moses, blow up in grandeur, losing the promised land by giving in to frustration and complaint.
