Pastor Yoojin wanted me to share a story with you all.
I’ve always found it difficult to spend money on myself. Instead, I prioritize supporting our church, hoping to be a spiritual and financial pillar within our church. I believe many others also share this aspiration. I’ve made a habit of setting aside funds for offerings and enjoy giving gifts to loved ones, but I became very stingy when it came to myself.
However, a recent encounter with my sister made me reflect. Like me, she struggles to spend on herself but is willing to splurge on her husband’s needs. Observing her, I realized that neglecting oneself doesn’t reflect well on God despite professing faith and goodness. It struck me that enjoying life within our means is also part of honoring God.
Last week, I told my husband that I would like to have a fancy bag, something I’ve never asked him for before. I was very nervous to tell him this, but he was considerate and suggested we go to the store together. Today, our family visited the Valley Fair in Santa Clara, where he bought me a bag and wallet set that I love. My heart was filled with joy and gratitude. It felt like both my husband’s gesture and God’s love and blessing.
Pastor Yoojin once advised me to learn how to spend and enjoy money wisely, acknowledging the seasons of life. This experience taught me that enjoying life’s blessings within season is not just permissible but encouraged by God.
